Amy Carter was born in Atlanta, Georgia and attended school in Georgia until 1992. Ms. Carter’s father works for Penske Truck Leasing and his job relocated the family to Frisco, Texas in 1992. Ms. Carter graduated from Frisco High School in 1996. She then went onto college and obtained a Bachelors of Arts degree and graduated with honors from the University of California, Irvine in 2000. While in college, Ms. Carter competed on the National Speech and Debate Team.
Ms. Carter immediately went on to Law School in San Diego, CA and graduated from California Western School of Law in 2003. While in Law School, Ms. Carter competed on the National Trial Team. In 2002, Ms. Carter clerked for the San Diego Public Defender’s office and tried and won two jury trials (DUI) prior to graduating law school.
After graduating from Law School, Ms. Carter began to work for a large firm in Las Vegas, NV. Ms. Carter gained experience taking depositions, attending mediations as well as working for large scale clients. Ms. Carter left the law firm to get her trial feet wet and began working for the District Attorney’s Office in Clark County, Nevada (Las Vegas). The experience that she gained at the District Attorney’s office was invaluable. Clark County was an extremely fast-paced court environment. In only one year, Ms. Carter tried nine felony jury trials, including armed robbery, attempted murder, and gang-related crimes.
Ms. Carter moved back to Georgia in 2007, to be near her family, and began working for the Jackson County District Attorney’s office. As an Assistant District Attorney, Ms. Carter focused primarily on the prosecution of Special Victim’s Cases (Sexual Abuse and Physical Abuse). Ms. Carter worked directly with law enforcement; child advocacy centers as well as the Department of Family and Children’s Services to effectively prosecute these cases. In 2009, Ms. Carter joined forces with Phil Pilgrim and they have been practicing together ever since.
While in private practice, Ms. Carter has focused her practice on family law cases including divorce and child custody actions as well as criminal defense of sexual-related offenses. Ms. Carter has a passion for helping families through a very critical period in their lives; family law cases are extremely personal, emotional and require a compassionate, dedicated and strong attorney. Ms. Carter firmly believes that her extensive background has helped her cultivate very good relationships with her clients.
Ms. Carter has four children and she currently resides in Buford, Georgia. Ms. Carter attends 12 Stone Church. She spends most of her free time attending her children’s sporting events and spending family time boating on Lake Lanier.
